A groundbreaking event for Spearfish’s newest commercial development, The Granary District, was held on Thursday, May 3. The Granary District is located at the Village at Creekside on the corner of North Avenue and Yukon Place, adjacent to the Creekside Apartments. The groundbreaking event included an overview of the development plan, introduction of new tenants, and opportunities available to existing and new businesses.
“The Granary District will be an absolutely tremendous addition to the Spearfish community,” said Kory Menken, SEDC Executive Director. “SEDC is proud that we were able to work with both the developers as well as the future tenants on this exciting project.”
Local development group, The Granary LLC, wants to honor the history of the property while incorporating the recreational path and Spearfish Creek in a new and fresh way. Tenants in The Granary District will not only have the internal square footage, but also access to large expansive decks overlooking Spearfish Creek.
“It was very important to me to be located in The Granary District with its unique proximity to the creek, which will really draw people to the businesses there,” said Megan Schoon, owner of Copper & Lace Coffee & Contour, an upscale boutique plus coffee shop which will offer locally grown menu items.
“My wife Ali and I are excited to be joining the craft beer community here in Spearfish,” noted Lee Eddy, owner of Sawyer Brewing, another tenant in The Granary District. “Being from Spearfish, I am excited to start a business in such a neat location.”
In this first phase of construction, The Granary District will consist of three multi-unit structures with roughly 3,500 square feet still available for lease.
