Rapid City among the 10 best places to retire

Livability, the website dedicated to helping people find the right place to live, has ranked Rapid City No. 9 on its list of 10 Best Places to Retire.

"Located between Black Hills National Forest and Badlands National Park, Rapid City, S.D., offers a rugged retirement destination to those looking for new adventures, affordable housing and a sense of seclusion,” the editors wrote about Rapid City."A high concentration of residents age 60 and older, clean air, pristine parks and low health-care costs make Rapid City one of the best cities to retire in."

Also, Rapid City has a relatively low median home price, $155,700 certainly makes the city attractive to retirees.

Rapid City is in good company. Other cities on the list were Scottsdale AZ (10th), Charlottesville VA (8th), Lincoln NE (7th), Hillsboro OR (6th), Carson City NV (5th), Tacoma WA (4th), Plano TX (3rd), Sarasota FL (2nd) and Santa Barbara CA (1st).

In September, Livablity ranked Rapid City 16th on the list of Top 100 Best Places to Live.

Benjamin Snow, president of the Rapid City Economic Development Partnership, hailed the Livability ranking as more good news for the Rushmore Region. He said Rapid City offers a great opportunity for early retirees who want to stay involved the business world by becoming angel investors, mentors to young entrepreneurs and active supporters of the community.
